INTEGRITY IN ACTION
UNDERSTANDING INTEGRITY
Our BKI-wide integrity survey conducted in early 2020 found that 53% of you say you would find it easy to identify behaviours such as hiding, lying, making deals under the table, scheming, etc. their team/portfolio. This page is designed to help you understand and live our value of Integrity.

Integrity can best be described as the most desirable behaviour on a spectrum of behaviours. It is defined as acting honestly and behaving with strong moral principles. Further along the spectrum are behaviours that can damage integrity.
Take the “Ethics Quiz” to learn more about how to approach situations that can put integrity at risk .
ROLE MODELLING INTEGRITY
Why is role modelling important?

Social learning theory shows that role modelling behaviour can help others to pick up the same kinds of behaviours. Research has shown that leaders that had ethical role models were rated higher on their ethical leadership by subordinates (source). When leaders demonstrate what are called “organisational citizenship behaviours" such as helping a colleague; others around them are encouraged to follow their example.

We asked some of our people what role modelling integrity means to them here are some examples:
Role modelling involves discussing tough issues with our colleagues or leaders. We've provided you with “Words that work” to approach such situations.
KNOW YOUR POLICIES
Did you know?

59% of people agree the culture at BKI encourages people to act with honesty and integrity.

One way in which we build this culture is by having systems and controls that prevent, detect and respond to situations that risk our core value of Integrity.

That’s why we have launched a fortnightly ‘know your policies’ campaign to raise awareness and knowledge of key policies that ensure we’re acting with integrity.

Policy in the spot light:
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU SUSPECT IMPROPER CONDUCT
Bendigo TAFE and Kangan Institute encourages the reporting of improper conduct. A person who wants to report suspected improper conduct has three options: Report to IBAC, Speak with a Public Interest Disclosure Coordinator (PIDC) or complete a ‘Speak Up’ report.
